Lutheran Heresies! -What's wrong with the Lutheran religion? Apparently this gentleman has problems reading. As I have learned so well in Greek, pronouns and antecedents can be dangerous and difficult. As a matter of fact, their a whole heck of a lot easier in Greek because it is an inflected language. The gender of a noun (all nouns have specific male, female, or neuter gender) is inflected on the verb, leaving no confusion. We have also learned a great deal about context and poor translations or interpretations derived exclusively from not using context. This includes taking an entire chapter and forgetting about the previous chapter. A perfect example is the Book of Romans where if you use your self-study NIV translation, you can clearly see Paul laying out an argument just by following along with the inserted headings (or just read it, eh?) This gentlemen wants to take single statements like "what does Baptism give?" forgetting about all the other teachings about Baptsim being a gift, the Holy Spirit working through the act of Baptism, etc. I am especially enthralled by his anti-infant baptism argument where he suggests that because there is no specific account of infant baptism, that must not be what was meant (nevermind all the other language proclaiming to us that faith does not come from a "decision" or anything of our doing. The act of Baptism does not forgive, God forgave and continues to forgive through Christ crucified.) All things considered I could continue to rant, especially on the writers stance of Holy Communion or works righteousness. Maybe another time. Either way, it makes for a pleasant read!
