Musings, ramblings, and nonsense from the fringe of space and time

The saga continues!

Since our last update, we've been quite busy! We helped my sister Becky move on Tuesday into her new house in Kokomo, in anticipation of her October wedding. Thankfully she had already move a great portion of their stuff and it only took a couple pickup truck loads. It was good to see Chris's family again and meet his sister and child. Their new house is nicely done and pretty clean. The had all the carpet replaced and repainted it interior. I suspect it was not-so-nice previous to these upgrades. Afterwards we travelled onward to Lafayette (filling up for $2.58/ga before the price hike) and I did some rewiring of their phone system to prepare them for DSL. I was supposed to get it running entirely by Verizon has their whole account whacked. They won't know until tomorrow if it even is getting turned on, even after receiving a call on Tuesday that it was. I don't know what the mixup is for sure but it certainly was not working. On Monday we picked up some more shelving for bathroom and kitchen and I decided to tackle the dishwasher project after all. I'd hate to put this off until we HAVE to do it to prepare for selling in four years. I figure we should install it and enjoy it. It took me three hours or so to remove the old one on Monday since they had installed a new floor after the original install, obscuring the front leveling feet. The on Wednesday I demoed the old cabinet while Anne and the kids were baby-sitting for a Bible study at St. Paul's. This only took 3 hours as the old washer was 18" and the new one is a 24". Some creative cabinet conjuring allowed me to fashion a decent 18" without taking the counter off. The Sears folks dropped off the new one today and I got it installed in a few hours. Oooh, Anne is reminding me of another funny story. When we arrived home on Wednesday, we had no power. Turns out that the Post Office destroyed our check, didn't tell me until late last week, we received a notice but I just assumed it was the monthly bill and ignored it until the due date. Well, the due date was Wednesday and they shut it off. I called in payment and they had it back on in two hours. In the meantime the kids got Pizza King for lunch since we didn't want to open the fridge. Ouch! We went to the Food Co-Op today to scavenge and found some gems. Last week some fresh peppers caught my eye but I didn't know if I could use them. They were still there today so I took a half dozen. At lunch I asked Ethan if he wanted to try one. He typically doesn't like them but gave it a go this time. I grabbed one of the smaller ones (read: hotter ones) which I thought was a mexican chili because it was green. Ethan took the first bite and was in obvious pain. I thought, it can't be that bad and ate the rest. It took about 2 cups of water, a bit of Kefir (yogurt-like drink), and about 10 minutes for my tongue to regain any sense other than pain. Turns out it was a UNRIPE Habanero, pretty much the hottest pepper on the planet. If you pick them before they ripen they are better for cooking and a bit milder. Still 40x or so hotter than a Jalapeno. Nice! There's another one in the bag. I'll have to cook something with it. The guide I found online said to handle them with rubber gloves only, the oil will burn your eyes. I spent a good deal of time last week preparing Dizzysound for life here in Fort Wayne. I am having new business cards printed, a 4x6 full color postcard for mailing, and have done some updates to my gear and website. I hope to subsidize my schooling with this venture. If any of you know of potential audio recording projects, large or small, PLEASE let me know. I can forward a letter and business card or the simple post card. The location recording and acoustic music recording field is wide open for someone with chops not inclined towards rock and pop. I pray God will bless us with this venture. Your help is needed too! We're going Dyer this weekend to visit Anne's mom, Christine's on Sunday in Lake Village, Gillespie's in Renssalear (sp?) on Monday and going to try to hit up St. Paul's Sunday morning. Whirlwind tour, eh? I figure the gas price hike will cost us about $35 extra just this weekend. Family is important and the kids miss their cousins, Aunt's and Uncles. I will being trying to replace a couple light switches and wiring on the second floor next week. I have a training on Wednesday for my campus IT job. Anne and I go through orientation the 8th through the 10th will all sorts of hob-nobbing. Tomorrow we're having a classmate and wife over for pizza. They are expecting at Christmas, got married last year and he just graduated from CURF in May. Nice folks and she's using a midwife. Busy times ahead. Can't wait for school!
