A Day in the Life

6:25 am - Gabe makes a racket, Dad wakes up, Mom sleeps 6:30 am - Dad takes shower, sometimes with Gabe. Ethan wakes up, turns on every light in the house. 6:45 am - Dad gets dressed 6:50 am - Dad tries to wrangle something together for breakfast. If he is feeling very adventurous he grinds his own flour, knowing full well it will make him late. 7:10 am - We sit down and have a reading and do some praying 7:25 am - Dad starts panicking that he is going to be late. Mad rush to brush hair and brush teeth. 7:35 am - Dad drives away, leaving Mom to fend for herself for the duration 7:45 am - Dad realizes that the traffic is not moving, takes "shortcut" and makes illegal left hand turn to try to stay on schedule 7:55 am - Arrives at campus, parks in appropriate lot on opposite corner of campus to classroom and makes the 300 yard dash 8:01 am - Professor has already begun, takes the worst seat in the class 9:55 am - Goes to Chapel. Anne and kids meet him since he forgot to grab his lunch on the way out 10:25 am - Go to IT office to work, say proper goodbyes to family 12:55 am - Grab lunch and rush to class 1:00 pm - Arrive at class, try to concentrate while snarfing down sandwich and such 3:00 pm - Exit class and find brief respite in Student Commons 3:55 pm - Go to Vespers (I rarely make it to 7:30 am Matins) 4:20 pm - Try to drive home, encountering repaving and inordinate amount of people going to best way, take another "shortcut" which turns out to be the long way. 4:55 pm - Arrive home, tackle kids for an hour or so while Anne makes dinner 6:30 pm - Eat dinner, with brief scripture readings 7:15 pm - Put Gabe down for the night unless he got a good nap in which case I hold him hostage while Mom reads the kids a book 7:25 pm - Begin reading and writing assignments 7:55 pm - Put the kids to bed and say their prayers 8:05 pm - Keep reading, often finding distractions by email or web browsing 11:00 pm - Realize I am too tired to continue, delay remainder of reading until the next day. 11:10 pm - Brush hair and teeth and hit the sack. And so the cycle continues. I am exhausted.
