Kramer Chapel Live - Concordia Theological Seminary
Kramer Chapel Live - Concordia Theological Seminary One of the projects I have successfully completed since arriving on campus is to get the daily chapel services online. The process is actually pretty clever. Its similar to what we set up at St. Paul's Lockport, albeit more interesting. For the non-technophiles, just click the link and listen to the service. I am using a program, Total Recorder to automatically record the services (from 9:55 am to 10:50 am), save as a Windows Media Lossless file over the network. When its complete, Total Recorder is scripted to run Real Producer and thus encoding as a RM file for the web stream. Finally I use AutoFTP to upload the file to the web server, overwriting the old file. The Windows Media file resides for archive and for subsequent duplication for those who miss it. I used WM Lossless as its typically 2.5x compression. You could just as well stream a MP3 from a standard web server, using the MP3 as the archive as well. Unfortunately, the MP3 for streaming would not be at the quality of the original event. Total Recorder will record simultaneously using the sound card driver as well its own internal driver. Thus I record a high quality version and a low quality copy for streaming. Variations on this process are great. I wanted to do a podcast but well... first things first. If you wanted the archive online, you could script it with PHP or manually add links to a website. For us, overwriting the original was sufficient. All in all it works as long as the network connection is live. If you are fortunate to have a PC with BIOS that causes its to start up on power outage, the whole thing restarts (granted you place the programs in the start up folder.) Again, to listen to the chapel service, click this link: Kramer Chapel Live - Concordia Theological Seminary (it cycles around 12 noon every day. If want to listen to a specific day, get there before noon and save it.)
