Discussion: Popular Media and the Christian?
We're going to try something new. I've got a question and I'd appreciate all of your responses. I've got some opinions but I'd like to hear your ideas first. In this day and age, Christians seem to be upset about the content of popular media. Many are suggesting avoiding the popular culture altogether. Others suggest using lobbying and petitioning to reform the content. All of this raises an important question: Should a Christian avoid popular mainstream media? What criteria should he use to judge what is permissible and what he should avoid? Should he avoid the popular world altogether? Similarly what suggestion would you give to the parents of a young person who is actively interested in music, art, literature and the like? Should he avoid these things? As well, if he is talented enough to actually create this media should avoid the study of non-Christian media? Your comments are appreciated.
