The Week in Review
It is Holy Week. I have the week off. But off is a relative term... Hold on, I'm getting ahead of myself. Last week was midterms... I had a three midterms all of which were heavy memorization in the course of fourteen hours (with a supposed 8 hour rest in the middle.) At 6 p.m. on Thursday we had "Intro to Missions" class and the last hour was our final. Unfortunately I didn't take the right perspective when doing the assigned reading for the course and was unable to answer a three questions. A cursory glance on the way out showed I was not the only one. Hopefully he curves heavily. At 8 am on Friday I had "Pastoral Counseling" final. Image 100 points of "5 steps of intervention", "14 reasons to refer", etc. Yuck. Again, I remembered about 80% of the material and perhaps not too effectively. At 9 a.m. was the Church History II midterm. This was the midterm to be dreaded. Years, popes with the same name, events with little to no modern relevancy. Fortunately, this was the easiest of the bunch. His study guide scared the living daylights out of me but the midterm was a breeze. During chapel at 10 a.m., I felt something was wrong. It took me a few minutes to realize that my muscles were loosened and I was relaxed. The deeds were done and I was able to slow down. 11 a.m. "Baptism" class proved stress free and even Greek Readings at 1 p.m. was not so bad even with the challenging greek of John's Gospel. Our friend Mary Caesar came on Friday and I watched the kids while they were out for their annual Birthday Bash. Anne worked for Mary at Concordia in Illinois. When they got back we talked theology until 1 a.m. (Mary was trained as a Deaconess so is adept in such discussions. It's nice to have a springboard who isn't as theoretical as the campus folk sometimes are.) Saturday we got up a bit late and had waffles for breakfast. Pastor called me to do Hospital visits which took until about 1:30 p.m. Mary and Anne did a craft (stamps) and I handled Luke while the rest were in bed. We went to Olive Garden for dinner and sent Mary on her boring US30 drive back to Illinois. Yuck.
Yesterday we started the excavation of the yard for the garden. We laid out a 10x10 plot in the back corner and started the digging. Rather the till the whole thing up, we wanted the sod as the starter for the compost pile. So I did the whole thing by hand. I put in about 4 hours on Monday. Today we worked non-stop from 9 until 1:30 p.m. The thing is ready for planting now. Now I'm tired. Enjoy the photos of our success!
