Here We Stand: Lutheran Identity Crisis
Here We Stand: Identity Crisis
I have to admit that there's nothing about being a "Missouri Synod Lutheran" that speaks to me. The story of Walther and his friends coming over to the USA to practice true orthodoxy without intereference from anyone else just isn't anything I can put roots in. Unlike a lot of LCMSers, I see "Missouri Synod" as the place where I ended up, not as anything special in itself. It's just too young. I just can't stamp "Made in 1850" on my Christianity with a good conscience.Josh S. articulates an argument I have made many a time while here at the seminary. I have shown no affinity for the branding Lutheran, LC-MS, or otherwise preferring orthodox or better yet Christian. The age of denominationalism is coming to a close and unity of faith on this earth is a self-interested notion. We do strive for common understanding and teaching. The reality is that many even within our so called orthodox community do not share the same faith. This has indeed been the case since Walther and Luther and even since Jesus. We're always on a corrective path to recover the truth which was given by Christ. Read Josh's post and discover your true identity!
