Seasonal Confusion

I know... I know... It's advent.... not Christmas. We had 3 sermons this week that all made mention of our liturgical calendar confusion. I get it already! But the trees were out, drying up... and we're going to be gone most of the Christmas season. So its time for Christmas transferred into Advent. Advent is kind of silly holiday anyway. How many of you can tell the difference between it and the last Sundays of the church year? So, we got our tree. Photos are here: Christmas Tree 2006 Here's my favorite:

Our calendar was already messed up from having two Christmas celebrations on Thanksgiving weekend. None of these trees will make it to Epiphany anyway so we might as well resign ourselves to the calendar of the world (or Most Precious Blood Catholic School, as the case may be!)

The Elder Scaer says: "I was raised that Advent began on the fourth sunday, then I was told it was December 1st, and then I'm told it's on St. Andrew's. In reality it is the Sunday after Thanksgiving."

I say it really doesn't exist at all since Christmas started the day after Thanksgiving.

Confused we are. Pless says Advent begins on the last sundays of the church year historically. Oh well.

I don't really have a comment on the Advent discussion at this time though I was ready for it to begin last Sunday......you've made your Uncle John proud, you have a train under the tree! The tree and family look beautiful. Enjoy the "season" and God bless you all with peace and joy.

With Christmas celebration on Thanksgiving, I feel like I've already done my after Christmas shopping. If it can be Easter everyday - why not Christmas, too?

I'm all for Christmas and Easter year round. Wrap the two together and call it the "Lord's Day." Oh wait! We have that. Every sunday is Christ's day (and so contains Christmas and Easter.)
