Little Loci - Quick Review - Concordia: A Reader's Edition... 2nd ed.

The book has been vastly improved over its previous edition.  Even the paper feels as though it is of higher quality, as does the cover.  The cover of the book nearly resembles that of the first edition, though the lighter gray has been replaced with a (very) deep blue, thus improving upon what was already an attractive book.  The index has been expanded.  Some changes in type-face make the book very easy on the eyes.    At an introductory price of $20.00, it is well worth the coin.   In fact, for what it costs to purchase *one* copy of some other English editions of the Book of Concord, you could purchase two of the new Readers' Edition (maybe give one as a gift!).   The inclusion of brackets is also very helpful in showing where the editors, for the purpose of clarification, chose to use the Latin to supplement a text that is otherwise based upon the German, or vice-versa.   In the previous edition, where such things happened, it was not easily discernable by the reader who is not already familiar with the German/Latin texts.  This Second Edition now leaves no doubt.   While it still does not presume to be a "critical edition" nor a scholarly one, it is still a fine book that both the average layman and the parish-pastor or scholar could put to good use.   Particularly for the parish pastor, a helpful section for sermon references will undoubtedly prove invaluable.
Rev. Fouts wisely links us to Rev. McCain's blog (he's Executive Director of CPH) for more on the new edition: see Rev. Paul McCain's blog post!. I very much enjoyed the first edition and it sounds like the changes are all worthwile. As my copy is out on loan, perhaps I should pick up another for the office. This edition is essential reading for Lutheran laity and is really quite inexpensive at $19.99. New! Concordia: The Lutheran Confessions-A Readers Edition of the Book of Concord - 2nd edition (That's $10 off for a limited time.)

With Valentine's Day around the corner, I ask:

"What could possibly say, 'I love you!' more than a copy of the second edition of Concordia: The Lutheran Confessions?"

: )

Chris: I might call this blatant self-promotion. Indeed it is a nice gift for Valentine's Day. It's got that nice deep maroon color that.... well, this has gone far enough.
