Flower-Q Part Deux
Yesterday was the second trial of the home-built Flower-Q smoker. This time we did pork chops. I used some of the Jack Daniels Oak Barrel chips. These chips probably were a bit strong for pork and would have been better served with beef. I found that I could get a longer smoke and not have to stir or add chips as often if soaked for thirty minutes. I think this also helped keep the outer flesh of the chops moist too. Two hours later we had delicious smoked chops. Yum! I had to move the smoker into the garage during the downpour because the rain cooled the terracotta by almost thirty degrees. I hope the 750-watt hot plate is enough for smoking in the winter too... I have a feeling I'll have to find a 1000-watt to keep the internal at 200 degrees. While they were smoking, Mr Weekend Warrior put in a carbon filter purifier under the sink with a tap on the top. This GE unit is like the one we have in Fort Wayne except not reverse osmosis and only single stage. It's a big difference, more economical than Brita/Pur, and better tasting. Today is sermon revisions and preparing for Bible study tomorrow. Fun times!
