Actually the perfect laptop for a student would be a tablet where you could draw in those helpful diagrams the prof puts on the board. That aside, it is impressively thin. I have to wonder how do they cool it? The new processors (cpu and vpu) put out an impressive amount of heat and I can't see something that thin having any heat protection worth the name. They also called a bug a feature, they sacrificed the optical drive claiming it is no longer needed. There is a marketing major for you, "You don't need a valuable piece of hardware because its wifi." Makes you wonder why they offer the optional usb superdrive. Stick with your macbook pro at least it isn't an overpriced pda like the air.
