I can't see… where is class?
The week is progressing as I had predicted. Ups and downs abound. Dr. Scaer on the Word of God lived up to every expectation.
I had to run and get my new eyeglasses adjusted after chapel. They're still not right. At least the prescription is a whole lot better. My left eye went out-of-whack. I was a year overdue. I can read for more than 15 minutes now. I didn't know how hard they were working to focus.
I got back to enjoy some fellowship with classmates. My prof for "Isaiah" Dr. Gard is hospitalized with pneumonia. There was a sign on the door that class was cancelled. So I went to Lowe's to spend way too much money on necessary home repairs.
Anne texts me there to say that class is on anyway. They got a sub but didn't tell the registrar. So I'm out the cash from one class due to miscommunication of faculty and staff. Ugh.
Stuffed more envelopes for Admissions. I hope the tech stuff starts up soon.
Wednesday was better. More greatness in the Chapel. Rev. Peter Cage preached on the little ones. Dense, terse, and earthy. You think children sin? "Adults are just more accomplished liars." Terrific stuff.Â
More Gieschen on John. He argued that John's preaching is the basis for His Gospel. I've argued that for Paul. Luther's Large Catechism is drawn heavily from his preaching. We don't confess a difference between the preached Word and the written Word, that is if the preacher is in the apostolic office and preaches and teaches according to Christ.
Dr. Masaki loves the material on Church and Ministry. I recall Dogmatics I (Creation and such) and we followed an outline heavily. Dogmatics III has about 3x more material assigned than we could ever discuss. He does his best. He recognizes how important our confession of the Church and the Office of the Holy Ministry is and will be increasingly in the future. We discussed briefly the Jefferson Hills Church "Communion Nights" mess. The picture on the website is outrageous alone. We didn't even hit on lay elder's consecrating and distributing communion in homes without a proper call. You can read more here: (http://www.jhchurch.org/pages.asp?pageid=75711)Â Thanks Scott for the link.
The family got their picture taken for the seminary facebook. We ate leftover bean soup. I have been reading and studying for hours now. Its time for bed.
Vicarage was rigorous. This is a different kind of rigor. I'm tired.
