The Petrellis' Jesus

On last night's episode of Heroes, Peter Petrelli, the on-and-of-again hero, is hanging out in a nice Vatican 1 cathedral while his mom prays. This is the first we've heard of either being the least bit religious. Here they are, religious, Christian, and Roman. We were treated with two different faiths. The lying Angela Petrelli says that not even God can forgive her for her sins. Yet, she prays in repentance. The sometimes-hero Peter Petrelli reveals the bargain he made with Jesus. You make me special and I'll be the hero. What kind of faith is this? Not much of one. No trust, no thanks, just deals. I was struck that Peter had forgotten the church and had fallen into works. Angela remembered, despite her doubt that it would redeem her. Neither trusted in salvation of Jesus's death and resurrection. One is secure in himself and the other in utter despair. Both position are possible with Roman theology. But that's not the point. Neither had Jesus. Neither had the Gospel. Its ironic the show is called "Heroes" and yet this season is wrought with negative types. Maybe the show creators are hinting at the rise of a real salvific character instead of the gaggle of fallen heroes?
