Heavenly Father, grant Your grace in Christ to all Christian children that they might honor their parents in spite of their failings, and enjoy a long and blessed life according to Your will; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The Catechism: Table of Duties—To Parents: Ephesians 6:4; To Children: Ephesians 6:1-3

To Children: 1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. 1st+
2 “Honor your father and mother” – which is the first commandment with a promise – 3 “that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:1-3) 2nd+

Prayer for Parents

Heavenly Father, You have given us the gift of children who are to be brought up in the training and instruction of the Gospel of Your Son. Give to all Christian fathers and mothers the strength and will to teach the Word of God to their children, and to see this responsibility as their most important duty. Deliver them from the temptation to abandon this sacred trust. Grant them faithfulness in their calling as parents, that they might love and care for their children even as You love and care for them in Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Table of Duties—To Wives

For our summer catechesis, we are studying the Table of Duties from the Small Catechism. This week we consider our station and vocation as wives. I recommend you listen here: 2013-07-28 Catechesis – To Wives

The Catechism: Table of Duties—To Wives: Ephesians 5:22; 1 Peter 3:5-6

Wives, submit to your husbands as to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:22) 3rd+
[This is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful.]*

They were submissive to their own husbands, 6 like Sarah, who obeyed Abraham and called him her master. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not give way to fear. (1 Peter 3:5-6)

1st+

Prayer for Wives

O Lord Jesus, by Your Word and Spirit, fashion all Christian women into wives made in the image of Your bride the Church. Teach them to submit to their husbands as to You, their Lord and Savior. Give them hearts that trust in Your Word, honor their husbands, and look to them for love and spiritual headship. Deliver them from all fear and faithlessness. Where their husbands fail them, support them with Your grace and let them find their sufficiency in You. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
